Who Are the Old Kranks?
It all started in 1986 when two cyclists crossed paths on the roads of Thousand Oaks. What began as a weekend ride between Herb Berger and Jules Meisler grew — through word of mouth and shared passion — into one of Ventura County’s most beloved cycling communities. Jules came up with the name “The Old Kranks” and it has stuck ever since.
Nearly four decades later we’re still riding, still socializing, and still welcoming new faces to the group. Our club is led today by President Sam Proia, who joined the Kranks in 2015 and hasn’t looked back since.
Our experienced amateur cycling group welcomes newcomers to rides in Ventura County including Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Conejo Valley and Simi Valley. Our membership includes women and men ages 50 and up who enjoy our local roads — arguably the best in Southern California. Join us and connect to a vibrant social network of riders from many backgrounds to share camaraderie, safety, ride recaps, photos and more.
